"During the 3 weeks I’ve been there, the biggest, and even the greatest job of all, was to give some love to the kids of the project."

It’s unbelievable what staying at Daphne & Peter’s does for your South Africa experience. Working at the projects in Motherwell is teachers one to be grateful for what you have, driving through the South African landscape is beautiful, but staying at Peter & Daphne is the ‘cherry on top’.

I came to South Africa with 2 of my friends, Fleur & Michael, to get some things done for the Thamsanqa project. When talking about ‘volunteering’ in South Africa most people immediate think of building, painting, etc. And that we did. But during the 3 weeks I’ve been there, the biggest, and even the greatest job of all, was to give some love to the kids of the project. It wasn’t about the materials or the color of the football we brought with us. It was about the hugs we gave the kids, about the games we played with them and about the words we taught them. Seeing the children laugh was enough to make my South Africa trip a great one.

But every day Peter & Daphne would make our day only greater. Daphne is one of the greatest cooks I’ve ever met. I’m a horrible eater, I don’t like a lot of things. But during the 3 weeks at Peter & Daphne’s I enjoyed the meal every single day. Unbelievable what they can do to your food. The conversations you have during dinnertime only makes dinnertime a nicer part of your day. Wisdom, jokes, experiences: everything will intermingled. And when you’re planning a trip for a following day, they’re always glad to help you to get the things done.

Coming home in South Africa for me is coming to Peter & Daphne’s house. It’s unbelievable how these people can make you feel like home.
